This Maryland-bred, Delaware-certified filly was foaled April 16, 2020, and is by Maryland’s leading first-crop sire of 2019, Golden Lad, who currently sits in 2nd place on the 2021 Leading Sire List for Maryland. Golden Lad’s first crop includes the five-time stakes winner Hello Beautiful, as well as 2YO stakes winner Laddie Liam, and two other black-type runners. His 2021 progeny earnings sit at more than $1.3 million.
This filly is out of the winning Mineshaft mare Starr Gate, herself a daughter of stakes winner and graded-stakes placed Stellar (an $800,000 2YO in-training purchase by Demi O’Byrne). Stellar in turn is a half-sister to the G1-winning sprinter Gygistar, and they are from the immediate female family of Breeders’ Cup Sprint-G1 winner and Eclipse Champion Eillo, plus G1-winning sprinter Flat Fleet Feet.
TrueNicks rates the mating which produced this filly as an “A++”, and the Medaglia d’Oro/AP Indy nick on which she’s bred has produced Grade 1 winners Bolt d’Oro, Plum Pretty and Dickinson.
Starr Gate is the dam of one other foal to race, by the obscure New York-based stallion Bank Heist, and that foal has placed on the NYRA circuit at Aqueduct and earned $14,080.
This filly sold at the 2021 Mid-Atlantic yearling sale at Timomium to James Layden for $6,000.
