Despite being a big, strapping horse with all the size and scope you could want in a horse, Enticed was a top class 2YO who scored first-time out at Saratoga, was 3rd in the G1 Champagne (just behind eventual champion Good Magic) and scored in the G2 Kentucky Jockey Club from all his starts that season. As a 3YO he won the G3 Gotham and was 2nd in the G2 Wood Memorial to eventual champion Vino Rosso, before retiring to stud at his birthplace, Darley at Jonabell. A son of the leading sire and now sire-of-sires (sons include Violence, Bolt d’Oro, Astern, Golden Lad, etc) Medaglia d’Oro out of the multiple G1W It’s Tricky, Enticed had several six-figure yearlings sell this year out of his first crop (to such renowned judges as Kenny McPeek, West Point and Cherie DeVaux), and he appears a sneaky value play among the stallions with first crops to run in 2023 given his pedigree, precocity, and a full complement of foals to head to the races with.
In light of all that, we’re excited to recommend Enticed in 2023 for the Juddmonte-bred Gosling. A daughter of Harlan’s Holiday out of the G3W Sense of Joy, by Dansili, Gosling’s 2nd dam is the G2W Bonash, by Rainbow Quest, who is also the dam of multiple G3W Day Flight, by Sadler’s Wells, and granddam of G3W/MG1P Phoenix Tower, by Chester House. The fact that the family has already produced a good horse by Sadler’s Wells (the grandsire of Medaglia d’Oro) is more important to us than the “D” that TrueNicks rates this matchup, especially since the cross (MDO/Storm Cat) has produced G1W No Parole and G3W Feedback among the dozen SWs bred this way, and the cross of MDO with Danehill-line mares (he being the sire of Gosling’s broodmare sire Dansili) has produced G1Ws like Vancouver, Astern and Flit.
So there is plenty on pedigree to recommend this match, and we also love it physically: as mentioned, Enticed is about as big as stallions get, and Gosling is a big-boned, stout mare as well who has already proven she can produce a runner by a massive horse (her only foal to race, $90k earner Charlie Potatoes, being a son of the very large Temple City). There is plenty of classic stamina in Gosling’s family, but hopefully Enticed’s precocity will draw out the early maturation that Harlan’s Holiday can sometimes impart (think Into Mischief, Shanghai Bobby, etc), and produce another classy runner worthy of the Godolphin and Juddmonte bloodlines it will represent!
