Although she didn’t live up to her illustrious pedigree on the racetrack, as a daughter of the record-setting stallion Into Mischief out of a multiple G2-winning dam and being a half-sister to a G1 Breeders’ Cup-placed stakes winner who is already a classic producer, we were very excited to help our friends at Wasabi acquire Miss Malibu at the 2023 Fasig-Tipton February Mixed Sale, in foal to Frosted.
Into Mischief has recently re-written the record books as a sire, repeatedly breaking his own single season earnings record as a General Sire (2022 was his fourth straight leading sire title), and also scoring multiple titles as the country’s Leading Juvenile Sire. His top offspring include Authentic, Covfefe, Practical Joke, Goldencents, etc, and he did it the hard way, starting from a relatively minimal stud fee and less-than-stellar mares and climbing his way to the top by imparting speed and class to offspring on an incredibly regular basis. His daughters have already produced the likes of G1W White Abarrio, as well.
Miss Malibu’s dam, Malibu Pier, was a multiple G2-winning turf runner who also won on all-weather and was G1-placed on dirt in the La Brea, and Miss Malibu’s two black-type sisters were Coasted (SW/G1P on turf, and the dam of Japanese G3W and G1 Tenno Sho (Autumn) 3rd Danon Beluga) and her full-sister Malibu Stacy (multiple graded-placed on dirt). Miss Malibu’s next dam is the G2W/G1P Blue Moon, by renowned Euro sire Lomitas.
Miss Malibu has a 2YO half-sister of 2023 by Vino Rosso, with a yearling half-sister by Vekoma in the pipeline, and her dam was bred to Medaglia d’Oro for 2023. Coasted’s 2YO of 2023 was a $1.5 million yearling by Daiwa Major, while Malibu Stacy has a 2YO of 2023 by Nyquist and a yearling colt by City of Light who sold for $175,000 as a weanling. Miss Malibu’s full-sister Snuck Out has a 2YO filly of 2023 by Frosted, a yearling colt by Street Sense, and was bred back to Twirling Candy for ’23.
So there is plenty to look forward to from this family, and we look forward to Miss Malibu contributing to that as well. She will be bred to Blame this spring after delivering her Frosted foal.
