Star of Shanghai

August 6, 2012 by Housatonic Bloodstock

Star of Shanghai comes from the highly productive and very active female family of Larry Johnson’s foundation mare Ran’s Chick (her 4th dam), through the stakes winner Special Kell (also ancestress of G3 winner and sire Street Magician) via Star Kell, the dam of multiple stakes winner and G2-placed Strike the Moon, of stakes-placed What Time It Is (in turn the dam of Maryland-bred champion Never Enough Time), and of Star of Shanghai’s stakes winning dam Walk of Stars (who also broke her maiden by more than 30(!) lengths).

In addition to Star of Shanghai, who broke her maiden as a 4YO going a mile on the all-weather at Presque Isle and was placed in 9 additional starts while earning $44,126 racing from 2YO through 5YO, Walk of Stars is the dam of the stakes-placed six-figure earner Hollywood Walk, of Starstreet (an $80,000 yearling and placed in his only start to date), and of a just-turned 2YO colt by Constitution who sold for $600,000 to Repole & St. Elias Stables at the ’22 Keeneland September Yearling Sale.  There is also a Maclean’s Music yearling colt to come, and Walk of Stars was mated to Audible for 2023.

Star of Shanghai was acquired as a broodmare prospect at the end of her racing career, and she will be bred for the first time in 2023, to Maryland stallion Street Magician.

You can see more photos of her here.
