Unrequited Love is an exciting addition to the Wasabi broodmare band, being as she’s a daughter of their first stakes producer, Wild For Love.
That makes Unrequited Love a half-sister to the three-time stakes winner and $250k-earner Local Motive, as well as the six-figure earner Dreaming Of Love and the promising 3YO of 2023 Whatta Notion, who was 2nd in her sole start as a juvenile. The next sibling in the pipeline is Mischievousness, a $120,000 yearling purchase by Maximus Mischief.
Unrequited Love herself placed third in her class at the MHBA Yearling Show (judged by Michael Stidham), then won seven races during her racing career, including a 4-1/2 furling maiden special weight at 2YO, a 6-1/2 furlong “a other than” allowance race at 4, a trio of starter allowance races, and two other races. She won each year from 2-4YO, up to a mile, on fast, muddy and sloppy dirt surfaces, often going wire-to-wire. She also placed in 11 additional races from her 35 career starts, and earned a total of $228,311.
Prior to her exploits in the breeding shed, Unrequited Love’s dam Wild For Love was a $130,000 2-year-old in-training purchase at OBS, and she went on to win at least one race each year from 2-5YO, including the 2015 Maryland Million Distaff Starter Handicap going one mile by almost nine lengths. Her other victories came at five-and-one-half and six furlongs, on dirt and all-weather. Wild For Love, in turn, is out of the multiple stakes winner Sticky, whose other foals to race include $200k+ earner Fara’s Kid. Wild For Love’s second dam is the Grade 3 winner Hairspray, and her third dam is Miss Legality, who won the Grade 2 Black-Eyed Susan Stakes among her trio of black-type victories.
Unrequited Love first foal is a colt of 2024 by the impeccably-bred Kentucky sire Tacitus. She is not pregnant for 2025.
