Weekend Madness was a $165,000 2-year-old in-training purchase by the renowned horseman David Meah — a price which made her the most expensive to sell from that crop of her highly proven sire Include — who went on to win a pair of races at a mile and 1-1/16 miles during her racing career, placing five more times from 18 starts. She retired to the breeding shed for 2021 and produced a colt by American Freedom in 2022 as her first foal. She is back in foal to Goldencents for 2023 in another Housatonic Recommended Mating.
Weekend Madness is by the Maryland-bred Grade 1 winner Include, whose credentials as a runner and sire are fantastic. In the breeding shed, Include has a reputation as a bit of a “filly sire,” as the females Panty Raid, Include Me Out, Include Betty, Her Smile, and Cash Included account for his North American Grade 1 victories. And as a broodmare sire, he’s responsible for the likes of graded winners Sam’s Sister, Micheline, Pink Sands, Amalfi Coast, Gunmetal Grey, etc.
Weekend Madness’s dam, Weekend Connection by Pulpit, was a winner herself and has produced 2021 2YO stakes winner Kavod, plus additional black-type earners Gran Brady and Shrilanka, as well as the winners Night Out and Unexpected Visit (both full-siblings to Weekend Madness).
Weekend Connection is the only foal out of the Grade 3-winning 2YO Fortuitous (by Dynaformer), who is one of 13 winners out of her dam, and is a granddaughter of Lassie Connection. Lassie Connection produced a stakes winner and four graded-placed horses, and is a half-sister to Group 1 winner & sire Wolfhound, half to Grade 3 winner and Broodmare of the Year Weekend Surprise (dam of A.P. Indy and Summer Squall), full to Charming Lassie (dam of Eclipse Champion and sire Lemon Drop Kid), and half to Lassie’s Lady (the granddam of Group 1 winners Ruler of the World and Duke of Marmalade).
Weekend Madness was sold in foal to Goldencents at the 2023 Keeneland January Sale for $25,000.
