(2018 bay mare by Tapiture out of Pay the Lady, by Not For Love)
Claimed by Wasabi Ventures Stables and trainer Jesse Cruz for $16,000 as a 3YO out of a winning effort at 1 mile over the Monmouth turf, having earlier broken her maiden at the same distance on Pimlico’s lawn, Why Not Tonight scored a 7-3/4 length victory in allowance company first-time off the claim at the Tampa, and then took the 1-1/16 mile All Brandy Stakes at Laurel in what wound up as her career finale. Placed on dirt in her first start, Why Not Tonight’s career totals were (11) 4-0-1, with $114,457 in earnings. She was the very first stakes winner campaigned in the Wasabi silks.
A daughter of the multiple graded winner Tapiture, who is now a leading sire of winners with more than a dozen stakes winners to his credit at stud, Why Not Tonight is out of the 4-time winning Not For Love mare Pay the Lady. Why Not Tonight is a half-sister to the winners Blue Collar Boom, Lost Weekend (2nd in the First State Dash at 2) and Lady Boss. Pay the Lady is half to a pair of stakes-placed runners, and her 2nd dam Bent Creek City was a brilliantly fast 2YO.
Why Not Tonight’s 7th dam is Claiborne Farm’s Broodmare of the Year Delta, herself out of the Blue Hen producer Bourtai.
Why Not Tonight delivered her first foal on January 8, 2024, a filly which was the first foal sired by the wickedly fast first-year sire Nashville. She will be bred back to Maclean’s Music.
