You Made It traces to Larry Johnson’s taproot mare Ran’s Chick, a female family that regularly churns out stakes winners, including the likes of Grade 3 winner and leading local sire Street Magician, 2020 Maryland-bred champion Never Enough Time, plus You Made It’s own dam Heaven Knows What and her half-sister Doing Great, along with their “niece” Great Soul.
You Made It, a daughter of one time leading freshman sire Congrats, who is now responsible for upwards of 40 stakes winners at stud, broke her maiden first time out as a 2YO going 6 furlongs at Laurel, and went on to add 7 more victories through the beginning of her 5YO campaign. Those wins came going as short as 4-1/2 furlongs, and as far as 6-1/2 furlongs, on both dirt and turf. She tended to show plenty of early speed, but was versatile enough to come from off the pace when circumstances required. Her career totals wound up at (22) 8-2-2, $157,494, and she went out a winner of her career finale in March of 2021. She will be bred for the first time this spring, to exciting first-year stallion Higher Power.
You Made It is the first foal out of her stakes-winning dam Heaven Knows What (by Holy Bull), whose subsequent foals include the 2YO winner Hurricane Nation and Zip Line To Heaven, who placed at 3YO and is still active. Her 2021 2YO is a Street Magician colt named Whenigettoheaven, who is followed by a Great Notion colt born in 2020, with an Astern foal expected in 2021.
Heaven Knows What scored black-type victories in the Virginia-bred Oakley Stakes on turf as both a 3YO and a 5YO, and was 2nd in that race at 4YO. She had four lifetime victories and $193,170 in earnings. Her half-sister Doing Great won half of her eight starts and $137,630, including the Maryland Million Lassie at 2 and the Oakley at 3. Heaven Knows What is also a full-sister to the stakes-placed earner of $121,672 That’sthequestion, plus a half to 5 more winners, two of them $100k earners. And her unplaced half-sister What Am I Gonna Do is the dam of open company black-type winner Great Soul and 2021 stakes winner Valued Notion.
Their dam (and You Made It’s second dam) What Do I Do was stakes-placed and a winner at 2YO and 3YO, and she’s a half to stakes winner What It Is (a stakes producer), stakes-placed winners Not What I Do (dam of stakes winner Do What I Say) and Dowhatisay, as well as to Kelly’s Question (dam of stakes winners Harbingerofthings and A Lover’s Question), and Dowhatyouwanttwodo (dam of stakes winner Partners Due).
What Do I Do is a half to the stakes winner and stakes producer Turn To T.J. and to stakes winner Special Kell, whose branch of the family is responsible for the aforementioned Street Magician and Never Enough Time, plus other stakes winners Strike the Moon, Walk of Stars, Oldies But Goodies, etc.
