The multiple stakes-placed 2YO Rockport Dancer will return to the court of brilliant 2YO Instagrand in 2022 for the second year in a row, in a match-up that only looks better now than it did when we first recommended it a year ago.
Instagrand is still a $1.2 million 2YO in-training purchase who won his first two juvenile starts in meteoric fashion, with an outstanding physical to go with it, but in the last year he also proved to be one of the most popular freshman stallions of 2021 with 190 mares bred, including some really top-class mates from his owner Larry Best — which will give him every chance to succeed when that first crop hits the track in 2024.
And Rockport Dancer still earned her highest status at 2YO during her own career, and is still a half-sister to the stakes-winning 2YO Dancin Shoes, but in 2021 another half-sister — Marys Tappin Shoes — broke her maiden and picked up black-type as a 2YO. And Marys Tappin Shoes is by a Storm Cat-line stallion in Creative Cause, which is the same sire-line that Instagrand descends from.
Furthermore, the already-successful Into Mischief/Unbridled’s Song cross — which had produced top 2YO Maximus Mischief and another four stakes winners, plus six additional stakes-placed runners — added a new stakes winner in 2021 with Flash of Mischief having captured 3 black-type events during the year; while the cross of Into Mischief with Gone West-line mares (Rockport Dancer’s broodmare sire being Gone West) added another G1 winner in 2021 with Mischevious Alex.
All of which we believe justifies replicating this pairing again in 2022.
