You’ll recall from this past spring how hot the first crop of the Maryland stallion Blofeld got, with his first 14 foals to reach the races all having won a race, giving him an outrageous 100% strike-rate from just 24 first-crop foals (just in time to attract a book of almost 100 mares in 2022 — the most in Maryland and the Mid-Atlantic more broadly). And while he hasn’t been able to (quite) maintain that pace, Blofeld’s stats still make him the most exciting young stallion in the region: he now has 28 winners from 36 runners (78%) out of just 50 foals in his first two crops, including both the colt and filly division winners of the Maryland Million 2YO races in 2022. That’s good for 4% stakes winners to foals, and with four more black-type placed offspring to his credit, that means he’s siring black-type runners at 12% to foals — an excellent number. He also leads all Mid-Atlantic stallions with his offsprings’ average earnings/starter of $55k, and his own AEI of 1.43 compares very favorably with his 1.17 CI, meaning he’s moving his mares up.
Blofeld makes a great match for Adding Alpha given that she’s by the G1W Even the Score, and from just 3 foals out of Even the Score mares, Quality Road and his sons have produced 3 winners, two of those being stakes winners! That’s good for an “A++” on TrueNicks. And Adding Alpha is out of a mare by Stormin Fever, a son of Storm Cat, and Blofeld has already had repeated success with mares carrying more Storm Cat blood (his own dam being a daughter of that Overbrook scion) including his SW Chickieness and SPW Beach Daze.
He also works well for the same owner’s mare Blondie’s Bucks. She is a daughter of the longtime Pennsylvania stalwart Jump Start, and that TrueNick rates an “A” (with Quality Road-line SWs out of AP Indy-line mares including three G1Ws, plus Blofeld himself has SW Johnyz from Albany out of an Oratory mare, and he’s an AP Indy-line sire, as is Stephen Got Even, the broodmare sire of Blofeld’s SPW Strong Willed). Jump Start also happens to be out of a Storm Cat mare, so that positive pattern appears again here, and Blondie’s Bucks herself is the dam of a SPW by a grandson of Gone West, who is also the grandsire of Blofeld’s sire Quality Road. And not only that, but Blondie’s Bucks has produced another SPW by Ghostly Minister, whose broodmare sire Silver Ghost is from the same female family as Blofeld.
All of which, we hope, will add up to an exciting exacta of successful foals for their breeder!
