Aquatic Approach is an unraced daughter of the promising young stallion Omaha Beach (in turn a son of leading sire War Front and a grandson of Broodmare of the Year Take Charge Lady), out of the winning Smart Strike mare Smart Mission. She is a half-sister to the 2023 multiple graded stakes winner Mission of Joy, who closed her sophomore season with a 3rd-place finish in the G1 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup at Keeneland and looks poised for a top-level campaign in 2024.
Smart Mission is also the dam of the winners Twice As Smart and Stealth Mission (both geldings by Bernardini), plus a 2022 filly by Union Rags, a 2023 colt by Tonalist, and she is booked to Nyquist for 2024.
Aquatic Approach’s second dam is the Canadian classic winner Misty Mission, who was Canada’s Broodmare of the Year in 2012, in addition to being a half-sister to the Canadian Champion 2YO colt Comet Shine. Misty Mission’s other offspring include the multiple Canadian Champion and classic winner (as well as US graded winner) Irish Mission, the Grade 3 winner and classic-placed French Beret, black-type winner and classic-placed Mythical Mission, and Ain’t No Tellin’, the unraced dam of Grade-placed winner Malibu Secret.
So this is a fabulous Sam-Son female family, loaded with quality runners and producers.
Herself a strong-bodied filly with loads of substance, Aquatic Approach was acquired for $10,000 as a broodmare prospect by Wasabi at the 2024 Keeneland January Sale (when she was known as Ms. Gellhorn), and she will be bred for the first time in 2024.
