Giving Spirit is a daughter of Horse of the Year, leading sire, and proven young broodmare sire Ghostzapper (whose daughters have already produced the likes of Justify, Up to the Mark and Drefong), out of the multiple stakes winner and graded stakes-placed Hallie Belle. She is a half-sister to the 2021 Speightstown colt Maycocks Bay, who broke his maiden impressively at 2YO for Godolphin and trainer Mike Stidham, and then took a Fair Grounds allowance race with a 95 Beyer the week before Wasabi acquired Giving Spirit for $45,000 at the 2024 Keeneland January Sale.
Hallie Belle has a 2022 full-sister to Maycocks Bay and a 2023 filly by Street Sense who are both still in the Godolphin program.
Hallie Belle is out of the Group 3-winning Charity Belle, by Empire Maker, who is also the dam of the multiple Grade 3 winner Alms (pregnant to Medaglia d’Oro for her first foal), as well as of a 2022 filly by Gun Runner called Runnin and Gunnin who was a $250k yearling and will be trained by Steve Asmussen. A good-bodied, big-walking filly with substance, Giving Spirit was acquired carrying her first foal by Midshipman on a March 7th cover. She will deliver that foal in Maryland for Wasabi before being bred back to the brilliant young son of Speightstown, Nashville.
