Magical Point, a daughter of Horse of the Year Point Given and from the fantastic Maryland female family of our favorite veteran sire Include, was the first mare to check in-foal this spring to new Maryland stallion Force the Pass, in a Housatonic Recommended Mating.
The cross of Gone West-line stallions with Thunder Gulch-line mares is good for a B+ from TrueNicks (and interestingly, both Speightstown and Thunder Gulch are bred on a Mr. Prospector/Storm Bird cross — the foal from this mating will be inbred to Mr. P 4×5 and to Storm Bird 5×5), with a half-dozen stakes winners bred on this pattern, four of them graded winners.
Additionally, Hail To Reason will appear 5×5 in this foal’s pedigree, which is a pattern we have actively sought for Force the Pass. That Hail to Reason inbreeding is especially noteworthy here because Magical Point’s dam is inbred 4x4x4 to Hail to Reason’s sire Turn-To, and adding even more of that blood is something that has worked very well for Include (a full-brother to Magical Point’s dam) in his own stallion career. So hopefully it will be successful in reverse here, too.
It is also interesting to note that the cross of Speightstown-line stallions with Include mares has produced 4 winners from just 5 foals of racing age, including 2 stakes winners — so we think that bodes very well for this mating as well.
Physically, this pair is well-suited, with the big, masculine, handsome Force the Pass hopefully helping to add some bulk and prettiness to the foal out of the more angular Magical Point.
