Super Mama is a 2014 mare by Elusive Quality out of McCool, by Giant’s Causeway. She was a $150,000 yearling purchase by agent Steve Young who raced for trainer Chad Brown. She finished 2nd three times in 8 starts from 2YO and 5YO, her best efforts coming at a mile and 1-1/16 miles on turf, and she earned $25,435.
Super Mama is a daughter of Grade 1 winner and champion sire Elusive Quality, who is the broodmare sire of well over 100 stakes winners, among them champions Roy H and Shamrock Rose, as well as the likes of No Nay Never, Guelph, Noholdingback Bear, etc.
Her dam, the winning Giant’s Causeway mare McCool, has also thrown the $150,000 yearling Accolade (a winner by Pioneerof the Nile) and the winner Adirondack Luck (by Rock Hard Ten). Her 3YO colt of 2020, Trump This by Palace Malice, last worked a half-mile on October 17th, and her 2YO filly of 2020, No Payne by Cairo Prince, has been breezing regularly at Belmont with her last move a half-mile on October 18th. She also has yearling and weanling foals in the pipeline by the Curlin son Union Jackson.
McCool is a half to the multiple stakes winner Aces Again (by Ghostzapper), and their dam, Dame Again (by Danehill), is a half-sister to the stakes winner Daltawa (by Miswaki), who is better known as the dam of European Horse of the Year and Breeders’ Cup Turf-G1 winner Daylami, European Horse of the Year and Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe-G1 winner Dalakhani, and the Champion Steeplechaser Dawalan. She is also the granddam of G1 winner Dolniya.
Super Mama was bred for the first time in 2019 and delivered her first foal on March 19, 2020, a very strong-bodied colt by the veteran Kentucky stallion Mizzen Mast (photo below).
