Tuxedo Annie traces directly to the outstanding Phipps family producer Grey Flight, a “Blue Hen” mare who was the dam of Champion Misty Morn (also a Broodmare of the Year, having produced the Champion full-brothers Bold Lad and Successor), plus eight other stakes winners, including Hopeful Stakes winner What a Pleasure (a two-time leading sire) and Bold Princess (the dam of Grade 1 winner Intrepid Hero and of Sovereign Dancer, who sired a pair of Preakness Stakes winners in Gate Dancer and Louis Quatorze).
Tuxedo Annie’s 3rd dam, Clear Ceiling, is a full-sister to both What a Pleasure and Bold Princess, and, in addition to Tuxedo Annie’s stakes-winning 2nd dam Infinite, she produced Pure Profit, who is the dam of Eclipse Champion Inside Information (herself the dam of Eclipse Champion Smuggler), Grade 1 winner Educated Risk, and Grade 2-placed winner Hidden Reserve (the dam of Graded stakes winners Defer, Reload and Philanthropist). Clear Ceiling is also the dam of Group 1 winner Quick As Lightning, Group 3 winner Stratospheric, and of How High the Moon (2nd dam of Eclipse Champion Sprinter Kona Gold).
Tuxedo Annie’s dam, the stakes winner Polish Treaty, was bred and raced by Ogden Mills Phipps and is a half-sister to Grade 2-placed winner Sailaway and stakes-placed winner Ultimate Goal, as well as to Option Contract (dam of stakes winner Shake the Dice and stakes-placed winner Love Contract) and to Long Term (granddam of Grade 1 winner Hot Cha Cha). All four of Polish Treaty’s other foals to race are winners, including Little Bop Peep, whose first foal — Thislillimeofmine — is stakes-placed at 2 in 2018.
Tuxedo Annie herself was a winner in maiden special weight company during her racing career. She is sired by Horse of the Year and Breeders’ Cup Classic-G1 winner Black Tie Affair, the sire of 34 career stakes winners, and the broodmare sire of Group 1 winner Mastercraftsman, Champion Judiths Wild Rush, etc. Tuxedo Annie also happens to be inbred 5×5 to the Wheatley Stables Champion mare High Voltage, “sex-balanced” through her son Bold Commander and her daughter Irradiate.
Tuxedo Annie’s produce record is as follows:
- 2013 Gentleman Justin (gelding by Lion Hearted) – an 8-length winner at 2-years-old.
- 2014 Aloha Annie (filly by Limehouse) – placed as a 3-year-old.
- 2015 Live Free (filly by Limehouse) – won 3 times at 3-years-old.
- 2016 no foal
- 2017 Cheese Louise (filly by Swiss Yodeler) – retained by Tuxedo Annie’s former owners to race in West Virginia.
- 2018 Kalmar (filly by Golden Years) – unfortunately this filly died as a weanling.
- 2019 (colt by Imagining) – foaled January 23, 2019. You can find out here why we chose this match.
Tuxedo Annie is going to be bred back to Blofeld in a Housatonic Recommended Mating, and you can read why here.
