Murmur Farm’s Blofeld remains the most promising stallion (and our favorite) in the Mid-Atlantic, and for those looking to stay local he will again be our most heavily-recommended stallion in 2026.
We recently acquired the flashy young broodmare prospect Starship Reality specifically because we think she’ll be an excellent match with Blofeld, and he will be her partner in her first trip to the breeding shed this spring.
Starship Reality brings a deep and classy pedigree to her broodmare career, as a daughter of multiple G1 winner and sire Union Rags (a promising young broodmare sire), out of the G3 multiple stakes winner Hessonite (by Freud), who traces in tail-female to the foundation mare Alablue.

So far, Blofeld has sired four foals out of Union Rags mares, all of which have raced and three are winners, including the $200k-earning full-siblings Mugatu (multiple black-type placed and a contestant in the Preakness Stakes) and Gamestonks (an eight-time winner who is still active). The non-winner on the cross to this point is the 3YO Finny, who has placed in half his starts and missed by just a nose in his most recent race.
Union Rags is a son of Dixie Union, and Blofeld has another foal out of a mare by a different son of Dixie Union (namely Overanalyze) who is a two-time winner. Dixie Union, in turn, is by Dixieland Band, and there are two more Blofeld runners by another grandson of Dixieland Band (Disco Rico), both of whom are multiple winners.

So this cross has worked very well for Blofeld, validating the “A” TrueNicks rating given to the broader Quality Road/Dixie Union cross which is responsible for the likes of G1 winners Caledonia Road, Salty and Klimt.
And then with Starship Reality’s dam being a daughter of the Storm Cat stallion Freud, we bring Blofeld’s best cross to bear, as well. No fewer than half of Blofeld’s ten black-type winners are out of Storm Cat-line mares, from just eleven runners (nine of which are winners).
We also think that Starship Reality will suit Blofeld very well physically since both are good-sized, stoutly-made individuals with plenty of leg, and thus a great like-to-like pairing. And although this female family tends towards turf and Blofeld’s black-type winners have all achieved that status on dirt, he’s actually a sneaky-successful turf sire as witnessed by the fact that his Crabs N Beer and Fletcher are both graded placed on grass, while the exciting 3YO filly Callmeyourmajesty (a full-sister to Crabs N Beer) just broke her maiden in a Fair Grounds turf event. But given that Union Rags is also a solid dirt influence, we’d expect the foal from this pairing to be plenty versatile.

You’ve no doubt read plenty of our mating plans outlining Blofeld’s statistics over the last few seasons, so we’ll just hit the highlights again here. From his first 108 runners, Blofeld is now up to 80 winners (as of 2/25/26), including ten black-type winners and another nine black-type placed runners, with average earnings of $89,395 per runner. His AEI currently sits at 1.32, which is well above the 1.10 CI that his mates bring to the table, meaning that he continues to move those mares up, and so far in 2026 his runners are hitting the board an incredible 64% of the time.
Blofeld has now led the Mid-Atlantic by number of mares bred for four straight years, starting with a reported 86 mares in ‘22 (this is his 3YO crop of ‘25, which already includes black-type winner Code of Silence), 99 mares in ‘23, 77 mares in ‘24, and 95 mares in ‘25. So he seems poised to take over Maryland’s leading sire mantle sooner rather than later, and it’s hard to see him relinquishing that crown anytime soon once he does so.
As his runners’ statistics have remained impressive, Blofeld’s auction results have improved as well, and make the sale of his yearlings a viable course of action now. He had 11 yearlings sell in both 2024 and 2025, and his median doubled from $10k to $20k last year while his average increased from $18,818 to $25,909.
All of which makes Blofeld the most exciting stallion in the Mid-Atlantic, and a great match with which to start Starship Reality’s breeding career.
