Housatonic Recommended Matings for 2026 — Imaginetheodds

March 17, 2026 by Housatonic Bloodstock

Murmur Farm’s Blofeld remains the most promising stallion (and our favorite) in the Mid-Atlantic, and for those looking to stay local he will again be our most heavily-recommended stallion in 2026.

You’ve no doubt read plenty of our mating plans outlining Blofeld’s statistics over the last few seasons, so we’ll just hit the highlights again here. From his first 108 runners, Blofeld is now up to 84 winners (as of 3/15/26), including ten black-type winners and another ten black-type placed runners, with average earnings of $91,369 per runner. His AEI currently sits at 1.32, which is well above the 1.10 CI that his mates bring to the table, meaning that he continues to move those mares up, and so far in 2026 his runners are hitting the board an incredible 60% of the time.

Blofeld has now led the Mid-Atlantic by number of mares bred for four straight years, starting with a reported 86 mares in ‘22 (this is his 3YO crop of ‘25, which already includes black-type winner Code of Silence), 99 mares in ‘23, 77 mares in ‘24, and 95 mares in ‘25. So he seems poised to take over Maryland’s leading sire mantle sooner rather than later, and it’s hard to see him relinquishing that crown anytime soon once he does so.

A hundred runners is just about enough to feel confident in drawing some conclusions about what might be working best for Blofeld (though as we set out a couple of years ago, he’s working just fine with pretty much all the mares sent his way).

So far, Blofeld has sired eleven runners out of mares by Storm Cat, by his sons, or by his grandsons, nine of which are winners, with five (!!) black-type winners, including Miss Harriett, Beautiful Blome, Chickieness, Iniziamo and Beach Daze.

And then from mares by A.P. Indy’s sons or grandsons, Blofeld has sired ten runners, seven of which are winners, with three (!!) black-type winners, including Silver Kiss, Johnyz From Albany and Code of Silence, plus an additional black-type placed runner.

Both of these crosses score “A++” ratings on TrueNicks, as you’d expect with ratios of 46% and 30% black-type winners to runners, respectively.

We will be taking advantage of both of these successful crosses at the same time with Imaginetheodds, since she is by Imagining, a grandson of Storm Cat who is out of a mare by A.P. Indy (he also happens to be from the stellar Phipps female family of Numbered Account, which is responsible for great broodmare sires like Private Account and Not For Love, among others).

Blofeld also gives Imaginetheodds a shot with a proven stallion right off the bat, since this will be her first mating. In addition to the strong pedigree nick, Blofeld should also complement her racing proclivities — though she placed at 2 and 3YO, she didn’t break her maiden until going longer on turf as a 4YO, and Blofeld can hopefully sharpen her foal up a tad.

We have every intention of racing Imaginetheodds’s foal when the time comes, but as his runners’ statistics have remained impressive, Blofeld’s auction results have improved as well. This makes the sale of his yearlings a viable course of action, should we need to go that route (in which case we’d still be entitled to reap the rewards from the lucrative Virginia-bred bonus scheme, too). Blofeld had 11 yearlings sell in both 2024 and 2025, and his median doubled from $10k to $20k year while his average increased from $18,818 to $25,909.

So the future continues to look bright for Blofeld, and we’re excited to have another well-bred, Virginia-bred, foal by him born in 2027!
