(2018 dark bay/brown mare by Bandbox out of Dulcify, by Candy Ride)
Dulce Kiara was a talented and hard-knocking racemare who won nine of her 35 starts, and was 2nd in ten more races. She earned a total of $273,047, and was successful on dirt (fast, good and muddy) and turf, from 5-1/2 furlongs to 7 furlongs, at Laurel, Pimlico, Colonial and Delaware. She broke her maiden in a waiver maiden claimer and then won an “an other than” optional claimer to start her career two-for-two. She also won a state-bred allowance race at 5YO, plus a trio of starter optional claimers and a straight starter allowance. Dulce Kiara won her racetrack debut as a 3YO, and her career finale as a 6YO. We acquired her following her racing career as a broodmare prospect, and she was bred for the first time in 2025, to our favorite Mid-Atlantic stallion, Blofeld.
Maryland-bred Dulce Kiara is a daughter of Bandbox, one of the early sons of leading sire Tapit, who scored his biggest victory in the G3 General George Handicap at Laurel for Ellen Charles and Rodney Jenkins and then stood in Maryland at Northview, where he sired seven black-type winners, namely G3W Leader of the Band, plus Artful Splatter, Seven’s Eleven, Coconut Cake, Take a Hint, Dancing at Midnight, and Follow the Dog.
Dulce Kiara’s dam is the black-type placed $173k earner Dulcify, by Candy Ride, who has thrown four additional foals to race, all of whom are winners, including Dulce Kiara’s multiple black-type placed full-sister Sweet Gracie (an earner of $286k) and the black-type placed Lucky Trinity. Dulcify, in turn, is out of the black-type placed Storm Cat mare Storm Breaking, and is a half-sister to the black-type winner Hung the Moon, who is also the dam of black-type winner and G1-placed Brill. Storm Breaking is out of the multiple black-type winner Sigrun, and is half to G3W Whimsy (dam of a black-type winner) and to the dam of black-type winner Alexandra Rylee (in turn the dam of G2W Clapton). Another sister to Storm Breaking is the granddam of black-type winner Catch My Drift, who is the dam of 2024 G2W Catching Freedom, 2025 G3W Bishops Bay and the multiple black-type placed Strava.
So this is a deep, active family full of black-type runners, and we’re very excited about Dulce Kiara’s chances as a producer given her looks and racing ability!
