A year ago we laid out the reasons why we believed that first-year sire Aloha West made a great match for the Mizzen Mast daughter Hurryupandcomeback, and with all of those reasons still entirely applicable, Hurryupandcomeback will head back to Mill Ridge Farm again in 2024 for a repeat mating with the G1 Breeders’ Cup Sprint winner.
To hit some of the highlights, Hurryupandcomeback is a half-sister to a multiple SW/G1P runner and to another $140k-earner by Danzig’s son War Front, and Aloha West’s sire Hard Spun is also a son of Danzig.
In addition to Hurryupandcomeback’s female family having had success with Danzig-line stallions already, TrueNicks still rates the cross of Danzig and Mizzen Mast as an “A++”, now with seven stakes winners (including G2W Air Force Red, who recently joined previous GSWs Ete Indien and Flying Jib bred on this cross) from just 55 runners. And if you look at the nick between Aloha West’s broodmare sire Speightstown (who Aloha West resembles physically more so than he does Hard Spun) and Mizzen Mast, that is an “A”, having produced the wickedly fast Nashville, among others.
Physically, this pairing is a very nice match of like-to-like between well-balanced, medium-sized horses with strong quarters and speedy looks to them, and we have every hope for a(nother) fast and versatile foal from this pairing!
