Named a TDN Rising Star for an 8-length maiden win at Gulfstream in his second start, Charge It was 2nd to eventual BC Classic winner White Abarrio in the Grade 1 Florida Derby in just his third start. He scored his first graded stakes win when romping home in the historic Dwyer at Belmont by an incredible 23 lengths (!!), earning a 111 Beyer Speed Figure for that performance going one mile. Sidelined thereafter, he returned with a Gulfstream allowance victory in his 4YO debut (102 BSF), then was 2nd in the Grade 2 Gulfstream Mile.
Charge It added his second graded victory later that season when scoring in Belmont’s historic Grade 2 Suburban by almost 5 over the classic distance of 1-1/4 miles, good for a 106 BSF. Charge It later added a 3rd place finish in the Grade 3 Westchester to his resume, prior to his retirement to Gainesway, where he’ll stand for an introductory fee of $12,500.

Charge It is a son of the all-time leading US sire Tapit, and is bred on the identical cross to Horse of the Year Flightline. His Indian Charlie dam, I’ll Take Charge, is a winning half-sister to Eclipse Champion and sire Will Take Charge, to Grade 1 winner and sire Take Charge Indy, to Grade 1 winner As Time Goes By, and to the dam of Eclipse Champion Take Charge Brandi and Grade 1 winner and leading 2nd crop sire Omaha Beach. Charge It’s second dam is the Grade 1 winner and Broodmare of the Year Take Charge Lady. So pedigrees don’t come more purple, with several successful stallions close up in his female family.
Queen Mum brings her own racing class and precocity to this matchup, as a 2YO debut winner sprinting at Churchill Downs who stretched out to finish 2nd behind eventual Champion Monomoy Girl in the Rags To Riches Stakes in just her second start. Later 3rd sprinting on turf at Saratoga, Queen Mum demonstrated plenty of class and versatility, and her first two foals to race have both placed at top tier tracks.

Queen Mum hasn’t yet visited a Tapit-line stallion, but she is a half to the active, six-figure earner Edified by Tapit (a $650k yearling purchase), and her half-sister Evening Call by Tapit was a $750k yearling purchase who is now a broodmare in Japan. Her dam also delivered a filly by Tapit’s son Flightline in 2024.
Tapit-line stallions with Awesome Again-line mares like Queen Mum rate a “C” on TrueNicks thanks to G1W American Gal, G2W Law Professor, plus G3Ws Bellavais and Mrs. Danvers, who are all bred this way. And Tapit and his sons rate an “A+” with mares by Queen Mum’s own broodmare sire Not For Love (seven black-type winners, plus three additional black-type placed horses).
We also like that this mating will produce inbreeding to Deputy Minister in the “middle” of the pedigree, which tends to be a successful pattern.
Physically this is a great match as well: Charge It is a strapping, correct horse with plenty of balance (more reminiscent of his broodmare sire Indian Charlie than his sire Tapit, except for his color) and Queen Mum also has plenty of scope and substance to her — so they’re a very good case of like-to-like, and we’re excited to see the foal that they produce together in 2026!
