Locked enters stud in 2026 at Gainesway Farm, and as a G1W at 2YO and 4YO by one of the country’s leading young sires in Gun Runner, he has every right to be a top class stallion.
A $425,000 Keeneland September Yearling purchase, Locked was named a TDN Rising Star off of his 7-1/4 length victory at Saratoga in his second start, which he followed up with a win in the G1 Breeders’ Futurity at Keeneland. A closing 3rd in the G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile, Locked unfortunately missed the classics early in his sophomore season, but returned late in the year to take a 7 furlong allowance race by 7-1/2 lengths and the G2 Cigar Mile over the likes of top older horses Mullikin, Post Time, Book’Em Danno and Senor Buscador.
After a 2nd place finish in the G1 Pegasus World Cup, Locked shipped to California and scored in the historic G1 Santa Anita Handicap by 8-1/2 lengths carrying co-top weight — the largest margin of victory in the history of the event. Third in the G2 Suburban at Saratoga in July, Locked closed his career with a gutsy win when up against it tactics-wise in the G2 Woodward, retiring with a record of (11) 6-1-3 and earnings of over $1.9 million.
Locked is a son of HOTY Gun Runner, now one of the leading sires in the country and a much sought-after sire-of-sires. His dam is a Malibu Moon half-sister to G1W Gabby’s Golden Gal and G2W Always a Princess.
Locked will stand for a first-year stud fee of $35,000, and we cannot wait to see his foals from the mares that our friends at Wasabi will send his way!
