As we note each spring, flexibility is important in the breeding industry, as there will inevitably be developments during foaling and breeding season which require a mare owner to change course from their initial mating plans. Our first instance of that in 2025 will see the Juddmonte-bred Prosperity forego a planned date in Kentucky and instead head to New York and a visit with fellow Juddmonte product Honest Mischief.

In addition to being bred by that global powerhouse, Honest Mischief is the most-promising, youngest stallion New York state at the moment, on the basis of his first-crop runners’ finish to their freshmen season in 2024. The success of those runners, including a pair of weekend black-type doubles by his son Sacrosanct and daughter Stone Smuggler (who both finished 2024 undefeated), catapulted Honest Mischief to his spot as the #1 Freshman Sire outside of Kentucky last season.
He’s now up to 15 first-crop winners, the large majority of those in maiden special weight or stakes company, and, in addition to his two black-type winners (5% to starters), he now has five black-type placed runners, including ‘25 G3-placed Arigatou Gozaimasu (a total of 17.5% black-type runners from starters).
These results are not super-surprising for Honest Mischief, who earned a place at stud as a black-type winning son of perennial leading sire Into Mischief and a half-brother to Grade 1 winner and stallion First Defence (sire of Eclipse Champion Close Hatches), out of the Grade 1-winner Honest Lady, a half-sister to Grade 1 winners and stallions Empire Maker and Chester House. Given ample chance at Becky Thomas’s Sequel NY, his first crop sold very strongly for a regional stallion as both yearlings and 2YOs, before they followed through on the racetrack last year.
With a strong pipeline already assured, Honest Mischief looks poised to be a leading stallion in the state for a long time.

Meanwhile, Prosperity comes from a family that has achieved repeated success with Into Mischief and his sire Harlan’s Holiday. Specifically, Prosperity is a half-sister to the multiple graded winner and G1-placed millionaire Fulsome and the multiple-stakes placed Citrus Burst (both by Into Mischief), as well as to G3-placed Mr. Darcy (by Harlan’s Holiday) (another G3-placed sibling, Rimprotector, is not from this sire-line).
Further back on the page, Prosperity’s dam is a half to the dam of European Champion 2YO filly and multiple classic winner Special Duty (from another branch of Harlan’s Holiday’s Storm Cat sire-line), as well as to the multiple G1 winners Sightseek and Tates Creek.
Though Honest Mischief himself has no foals of racing age out of Tapit mares like Prosperity, the Into Mischief/Tapit cross has produced G1 Kentucky Oaks winner Pretty Mischievous, G2 winner Hoosier Philly and G3 winner Rocket Can. And looking another generation back, the Into Mischief/Distorted Humor cross (DH being Prosperity’s broodmare sire) has produced some of Into Mischief’s best like Life Is Good, Practical Joke, Citizen Bull and Tappan Street.
Physically speaking, Prosperity is a big, strapping mare who will suit Honest Mischief very well, and we look forward to this pairing producing a talented and versatile runner to rack up a plethora of NY-bred bonus money!
